My Furry Friend Smells…From Food

Many things can cause your furry friend to have an unfriendly smell. Common causes include but are not limited to:

    • Gastrointestinal issues
    • Infections
    • Disease
    • Allergies
    • And yes…food!

A dog owner recently told us about receiving a gift of high-quality dog food from a friend. With the expense of food these days, the family gave it a shot. Their dog loved the food, but began to have a strong, unpleasant odor. However, it wasn’t related to any digestive or gastrointestinal issues, “The smell was oozing from our little dog!” they said.

Just as a human can eat an onion and have onion breath, people will also talk about onion smell coming out of their pores. In a similar way, if your pet is omitting an unpleasant odious smell, you might ask if the food may be causing the problem.

Our friend changed to a different food (after taking advantage of free samples from Mud Bay). As suspected, the smell left immediately. As stated in one of our previous articles, taking advantage of free samples from quality pet stores is a great way to test before you buy. You might want to test more than their fondness for the food – you might want to make sure it passes your smell test as well.
